Quoting, Paraphrasing, Documenting

Giving Credit: Quoting, Paraphrasing . . .and Plagiarism

Every student needs to understand their responsibilities under the Honor Code and under the expectations of academic honesty.

Students MUST give careful attention to the section of the syllabus dealing with the UMW Honor Code.

Students who are unfamiliar with the requirements of correct documentation, accurate quoting, and acceptable paraphrasing should meet with the Writing Center. They are also encouraged to check with the instructor at any point that they have questions or concerns.

Please note the particular requirements of this course:

Footnotes and bibliography for the final project are required and must follow all standard rules.

BUT, with each 500-word essay about a single article or chapter or film and with the identifying info in the introduction, all that is required/needed is parenthetical page numbers for quotations. All other info is–as identified by the info in the introduction–from the assigned article or chapter or film.
